The Show

Through the desert I ride, barely alive, looking for fuel, the devilish kind. In the distance there hides a small town behind the shadow of a great mountainside. With Nowhere to flee, looks like a good place to me to greet God’s men and women so fervently, so I stroll into town transformed as a clown to gain love and trust all around. Quickly, I am greeted, and soon they are seated for the show I feel they are desperately needing. "Ladies and Germs it’s your lucky day, I'm not gonna kill you if you do what I say. Live by my rules and we'll get along, but don't question me because I do no wrong. I’ve finally arrived to guide you down the valley of darkness in which lies this town." There’s one way to live in this fragile world. To explain my prowess, my power, my malice, I cast with fire my very own palace. Many are burned but no one flees. There is no choice but to worship me. I laugh out proud when out of the clouds comes another God to shoot me down. He greets his stage and begins his clout to let out the motive that I just shout.

Goodbye town, you served us well. You've been a friend and an enemy, like a father or a bottle of Olde E. We shouldn't complain but we do and we will. We're just human after all, that’s a teaching of yours if I recall. So come on, we better get going. I heard the bell ring and the gate is open, the light is on, the sign is flashing, and it's our turn to get on out of here. Goodbye town. You did what you had to do. We needed a place to stay until the arrival of our air balloon. I'm proud to have some of my blood staining your streets, and imprints of your six wards stained all over me. To the hard laughs, and the altered state adventures, to the wrinkles acquired the hairs we left behind, those fucking traitors, to the crowds we killed, and the ones who didn’t care, to the G.A.B. we passed around and drank, and the girls who graciously returned our stares, thank you, and goodbye.

Strange City

Dear Laura, we've traveled alone through space and time. Five times did our trains collide. What year is it for you what year is it for me? Often I stick my head out to look behind, but it's been a while since we shared the line. Dear Laura, don’t forget your ways. It's hard to stay true when minutes and years and seconds become days. What have you seen? What new do you know? I've been living out of my mind for quite a while, like a suitcase with too little space to store the elaborate plans to escape this place. Sometimes you gotta let it spin out of control. Sometimes it's good to stop and watch. Sometimes you find yourself waiting for a train in Strange City, and you never can tell when it's gonna arrive and I know this, but my gut cries. Dear Laura, I can't figure out a direction to shoot for or to aspire, or where to find the great desire. I may have yours, you may have mine. I hear you're having trouble falling asleep, you're waiting for something to happen but everything's still hell. In the morning I can't wake up too afraid something will. Dear Laura still cries, Dear Laura still cries.

Pledge With Us

I pledge to forever search for something real I can live then die for, a story I'm proud to tell of narrow escapes and formation of folklore. I will preserve all that is good and stamp out evil. Give me a sunset to ride on through, for this pledge I’ll continue.

I got friends thanks to $6 pitchers, I got a place where they know my name. But they don't know James, and I sure as shit don't know them. Who am I kiddin? Not me. I saw this walking in. Those nights/fights/cries/jokes/laughs/songs never really happened. I got friends thanks to $2 pints, I got a place where they know my face. Well sure, they ask for my ID and I see and greet with hugs like drugs that keep me feeling known, until I go home alone. I feel too old to scream the stupid songs and so I swill to feel the hope and love as kids we dreamt all those other nights. We're not good at socializing because we're all out of practice. I wish I could go back and exercise my mind with real nights, fights, cries, jokes, laughs, songs, love, life. Our time on this earth can be better well spent.
